. it is now on its way to canada after pounding new england with wind and with rain. is steve doocy still on that cruise in canada? >> he is. >> live in chatham, massachusetts with the latest for us. were you on the cruise with your dad, peter? >> i am not. my dad -- oh, i was on the cruise, yeah, ended up having to fly out to halifax because i was needed here but luckily, tropical storm earl was a lot weaker than originally feared when it ended up coming into massachusetts last night. it was still a very powerful storm until it left the area about two hours ago. take a look at this. >> it's almost midnight here in massachusetts. we're down by the water and hurricane earl has been downgraded to tropical storm earl. you can see the wind and water are still coming in very, very hard. it hurts when it hits you in the face. you look up and you can see that red flag waving behind me. that's how fast the wind is blowing right now and you can see there's a beam from the chatham white house still beaming out light for miles to miles. a lot of people came out to see what was going on. they left

officials are saying with tropical storm beryearl its wayo canada today this is video in cape cod. with the intensity far less intense. however, with a lot of rain in cape cod there was some area flooding, power outages. and also damage to the outer rings of north carolina and they're hoping that the tourists will return to the altar banks. apparently, everybody is thrilled. >> you can imagine that bring this closer to home, this is from our mount ptam and let us check-in with jacqueline. >> cooler weather continues into this weekend. a storm passing us to the north will bring us increase sea breeze when this. with fog coverage and cooler temperatures. cooler today, cooler on sunday and only 86, inland on sundays. we are going to see some of warming as we go into labor day. their reversal. at the sea breezes will be eliminated and the warmer dry air will warm out to dry air. and a perfect weather for labor day, and not too stifling. 84 are run the bay shore, and 70's on the bayshore we can look forward to that. as for this morning, to backtrack to to the extent of the fog. >> at 5

now downgraded to a tropical storm and it is pounding canada this hour with winds gusting to 75 miles an hour. it made landfall in nova scotia bringing power outages everywhere for the last week. we've been watching earl whirl around the caribbean, tearing off rooftops and toppling trees, then earl headed forour east coast. and new england is bracing for the worst but they are thankful this time they dodged the bullet. jennifer davis has the latest in cape cod. >> you are absolutely right. new england was getting ready if preparing a big storm but in the end, earl blew on by. today it has been a picture perfect day as locals scramble to get back to business as usual. >> earl weakening from a mighty hurricane to a tropical storm still bringing with it plenty of wind and waves but not nearly enough to bother new englanders that is used to all sorts of rough weather. >> we were hoping for more of that. >> it came down in preparation what could be a serious blast of hurricane-force wind and rain but the signs are going back up and business owners hope it will be economically viable labor

that the northern government has signed with china and others, canada, even, and others who have interest in the oil. those agreements are going to have to be looked at, both by the north and south. it's not a matter of the south taking over and saying we are going to start afresh. those are agreements that have to be honored, or maybe can be renegotiated with the new independent government, but that's an area where there's need for cooperation between the north and south. another issue is what do you do with the citizenship issue. northerners will live in the south after the vote, and southerners who live in the north. what is their status? we won't want a situation where there's ethnic cleansing or people pushed out of their homes because they are not now consider add northerner or southerner or citizen of that new country. those are important issues that have to be addressed. finally, the real challenge for the oil is corruption. there's corruption in the national congress party and in the sudan people's liberation movement. there needs to be greater transparency, and checks put in place so that
